5 Reasons You Should Get A Pole Dance Certification

When taking a pole class or practicing in open studio, have you ever wondered, “How could I get better at this faster?” 👀

Of course, nothing replaces physical practice, practice, practice! But there’s another tool that can help you progress that you may not have considered: learning how to teach it.

Understanding the fundamentals behind pole movement, how to break down tricks, identify common mistakes, and approach movements from an instructor’s perspective can give you a whole new understanding of your own practice.

Or maybe you’ve been dancing for a while, and you’re the person your friends are always asking to show them a trick. Maybe you’ve fallen completely in love with pole and want to take your journey to the next level.

Whatever brought you here, becoming a certified pole instructor could be an amazing next step. 💗

We’re so excited to be hosting XPERT Pole Fitness 1 & 2 Teacher Training at Spiral Space in Ventura, California! If you’ve been on the fence about getting certified, here are five reasons I think you should go for it. 💗

1. Turn Something You Love Into Something More

Let’s be honest — pole is FUN. Addicting even. For a lot of us, it becomes so much more than just a hobby. It builds strength, confidence, body awareness, creativity, and a whole new relationship with ourselves.

Getting certified gives you the opportunity to take something you’re already passionate about and turn it into a skill you can share with other people.

You could teach classes, private lessons, workshops, or eventually create your own thing. Maybe you even discover that teaching is something you absolutely love.

You don’t have to know exactly where it’s going to take you. You just have to take the first step.

2. Being Good at Pole ≠ Knowing How to Teach Pole

This one is important.

You can be an incredible dancer and still have no idea how to explain a move to someone who has never done it before. Maybe you barely understand it yourself, you just do it 😂

Teaching is its own skill, because teaching others teaches you. It’s very symbiotic! When leading others, you must be able to break movements down, communicate clearly, recognize what a student is struggling with, offer modifications, and create an environment where people feel safe enough to learn. Some of that is not intuitive, because we are so used to receiving information rather than giving it.

That’s where teacher training comes in.

XPERT’s Pole Fitness 1 & 2 training covers things like spotting, lesson planning, progressions, regressions, variations, common mistakes, and understanding the movements you’re teaching.

Basically, we’re taking you beyond “Okay, just do what I’m doing!” and actually teaching you how to teach.

3. Build Confidence in Your Voice

There’s something really empowering about standing at the front of a room and realizing:

“People are here because they trust me to teach them.”

Teacher training gives you the opportunity to practice being that person. You’ll learn how to demonstrate, explain, give feedback, and lead a class — and you might surprise yourself along the way. And honestly? That confidence can extend way beyond the studio.

There’s a big difference between knowing something and feeling confident enough to stand up and share what you know.

4. Open the Door to New Opportunities

Getting certified doesn’t mean you have to immediately quit your day job and become a full-time pole instructor. 😉

It can simply give you another tool in your toolbox.

Maybe you want to teach one class a week. Maybe you want to become a substitute instructor. Maybe you’d love to teach workshops or private lessons. Maybe you’re dreaming about opening your own studio someday.

5. Become Part of the Next Generation of Pole Instructors

One of my favorite things about pole is the community.

Think about the women who taught you. The instructors who encouraged you when you couldn’t get a trick. The person who spotted you. The friend who told you, “Girl, you CAN do this.”

At some point, you get the opportunity to become that person for someone else.

That’s pretty powerful.

Getting certified isn’t just about adding another credential to your resume. It’s about investing in yourself and helping create the kind of supportive, inclusive pole community you want to see continue growing.

And who knows? Your future favorite student might be waiting for you. 💕
